My musical adventures began when I was 12 or so dabbling in any noise producing devices I could find. I had a harmonica and my long time friend, Dave Lashmar (of Syringe and Choke On Candy) had drums and a piano in his basement. We started jamming around and I played drums and sang. The Mickey Mouse Basement Blues Band was born. We were loud and horrible but had loads of fun. At the age of eighteen, I switched to bass and formed The Reflection with Dave Lashmar - guitar, vocals, piano and Bob Bunting - drums. We were loud and pretty damn bad but thought we were great. Played some gigs, Corktown was the first I think and Bannisters was the last. We opened for The Trouble Boys mostly, thanks Tim.
I have been in various bands - Softwind ( rock), Vampire Sex Chain II (goth), U4EA ( jazz/fusion), Snake Skin Karma (punk/rock), Shelley G Band ( blues/jazz/R&B), Lightly Toasted(jazz), Roker de Grootse ( rock), Acrylic(Alternative), Syringe (Alternative rock) plus many jams, sessions and fillers. I have recorded studio albums with bands or sessions, radio interviews & performances, television and so on.
Today I am playing bass with The Jamie Shea Trio, Saigon Club, RVI and whatever else pops up.. I have done some studio work for David Lashmar, Fred Purser, Mark Siltamaki, Choke On Candy, Devious01 and Nikki T . I produced a demo for Nara Farrell (vocal) and Lorelei Kilgour(piano). I recorded a newscast for a play for the Northern Lights Theatre Company. Plus I continue to dabble in my out sights and sounds. I also have a guitar & bass duo named R.V.I. dig! You will also see me playing with various cats when they need a bass player.
Bass influences include: Robert "Family Man" Barrett, "Geezer" Butler, Paul Chambers, "Bootsy" Collins, Anthony Jackson, James Jameson, Geddy Lee, Bernard Odum, Jaco Pastorius, Dee Dee Ramone, Rocco Prestia, Sid Vicious, Flea, Robbie Shakespeare, Sting, Cachao, ..... and so on and so on!
Musical influences: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia, Rush, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bob Marley, Violent Femmes, etc. I dig blues, jazz, funk, punk, rock, classical .....
that's all folks!
